Dear Resident,
It is with great pleasure that I reach out to you as we acknowledge the 175th anniversary of Marlboro Township’s incorporation. I wish you, the residents of the Township of Marlboro, a heartfelt Happy Anniversary!
On February 17, 1848 the small hamlets of Morganville, Robertsville, Wickatunk, Bradevelt, and Topanemus were separated from Freehold Township, and bound together by an act of the New Jersey State Legislature formally incorporating the Township of “Marlborough”. At the time of the Township’s incorporation, we were a community of less than 1,500 citizens. To put perspective on how far we have come, there are more than 1,500 students currently attending Marlboro High School. Today, we are more than 41,000 residents strong.
Over the last 175 years, the Township of Marlboro has seen a world of changes, blossoming into a lively and diverse community of families, with world class schools, parks and recreation activities for all ages and a professional community-minded police department keeping us safe. At the same, we still have a connection to our farm town roots, with more than 420 acres of preserved open space and farmland and retain some of our small town charm.
I grew up in Marlboro and I am so proud of what this community has become. We have added events, programs, and celebrations throughout the years and they continue to grow. Residents enjoy the Winter Holiday Lighting, Multi-Cultural Day, Trunk or Treat, Day of Independence concert and fireworks, just to name a few. Of course, we cannot forget Marlboro Day, my favorite day of the year, that began in a parking lot with a few tables and has grown into a huge event.
Thousands of our residents choose to give back, volunteering their time on committees, in our schools, coaching our sports teams, and in a wide variety of cultural, social and religious organizations. Of course, we cannot forget the First Aid and Fire Departments that volunteer 24/7 to protect our families, friends and neighbors. I still feel honored and extremely fortunate that this community which I have called home for my entire life has chosen me as its Mayor, and am honored to serve this community that has given me so much.
Throughout the month, we will acknowledge the Township of Marlboro’s Demisemiseptcentennial (yes, this is a word) with social media posts that tell the story of Marlboro’s past and proclamations honoring our community. We look forward to seeing the ways that you and your neighbors will choose to commemorate Marlboro this year, and every year.
I remain excited about what the future has in store for Marlboro, knowing that by continuing to work together and upholding Marlboro’s reputation as a highly desirable suburban destination we will shine bright.
