Division of Tax Collection

2nd QUARTER PROPERTY TAXES MESSAGE

Second quarter property taxes must be received by Wednesday, May 10th to avoid interest. Note that interest charges on payments made after the grace period are calculated back to the May 1st due date. The Tax Collector’s office will have extended hours on Wednesday, May 10th from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm. A drop box is located in the vestibule of Town Hall and is available 24/7. All payments left in the drop box by 8:00 pm on May 10th will be credited that day and will not be subject to interest. Property tax information can be found using the link on this page “View Property Taxes Online”.

The Tax Collection Division is responsible for calculating and collecting all current and delinquent property taxes, charges, penalties and interest, and accounting to the Director of Finance for all collections. The Tax Collection Division is also charged with:

  • Performing tax searches and other liens on real property in the Township and charging and collecting fees for such searches.
  • Preparing and mailing tax bills, collecting taxes, and maintaining tax accounting records.
  • Depositing all monies received in one or more depositories, in accordance with the Township’s Cash Management Plan, and maintaining complete records and accounts of all sums collected.

Property tax bills are mailed once per year in July and include four (4) quarterly payments. Taxes are due on the first of February, May, August and November. There is a 10 day grace period after which interest is applied. Please note that the State of New Jersey does not allow the Tax Collector to acknowledge postmarks and that the Tax Collector is not responsible for lost or delayed mail. Therefore, taxes must be received in this office on or before the 10th. If the 10th falls on a weekend or a legal holiday and the office is closed, the grace period is extended to the next business day. Payments received after the grace period will be assessed 8% interest per annum on the first $1,500.00 of delinquency and 18% per annum on all balances over $1,500.00 calculated from the due date (the 1st). Any balances in excess of $10,000.00 on December 31st will be assessed a 6% year end penalty.
