Re: High Wind Warning – UPDATE #2

Dear Resident,

We remain under a National Weather Service High Wind Warning beginning tonight, December 24 at 6:00 pm through 7am Friday, December 25.  The strongest winds are expected this evening and wind gusts of 50 mph or more can occur.  The heaviest rain is expected Thursday afternoon through Friday morning.  Damaging winds combined with snow melt and an already saturated ground can blow down trees and power lines and can lead to widespread power outages.

If you have not yet done so, please take a moment now to prepare.

  • Secure all outdoor holiday decorations.
  • Keep all personal electronics and backup batteries charged.
  • Gather flashlights and batteries.
  • Review the steps to plan and prepare for an outage at http://ready.nj.gov/plan-prepare/power-outages.shtml
  • Stay in touch with us. Review our letter ‘Communication During a Storm’
  • Register for JCP&L communication tools to easily report an outage and receive updates. https://www.firstenergycorp.com/help/communication_tools.html
  • Visit Optimum Website to track service interruptions and report outages.
  • Clear sewer drains on or near your property allowing rain and snow melt to run freely and prevent flooding.

Assume all downed wires are alive and dangerous. Report to the Marlboro Division of Police at 732-536-0100 to report.  In case of emergencies, dial 911. Should power outages occur, please do not call the police outage updates.  They do not have additional information and it is vital that their lines stay open for emergencies.

As we begin a holiday weekend, I want to take a moment and thank those that will be at work when most are home.  We are grateful to Marlboro Police, our volunteer Fire and First Aid Squads and our Marlboro Police Dispatch who answer the phone at your time of need. Medical personnel, always essential, have never been more so this year.  When a storm is incoming, Public Works, JCP&L line workers, and Offices of Emergency Management at the local, county and state level are all called to service.

We hope for the best and plan for the worst.  Please support their efforts by being prepared.  Merry Christmas to those that celebrate and a safe, healthy and happy weekend to all.

Mayor Jon Hornik
