Winter Storm Jonas Update #6
Sunday - 1/24/2016 – 10:30 am
Dear Residents:
We have had a significant amount of snowfall along with blowing and drifting snow. The Department of Public Works (DPW) has been plowing continuously since 3am on Saturday. Rock salt will be utilized during and post cleanup to deal with icing conditions which can be expected with the frigid temperatures we are experiencing.
Residents have expressed concern about getting out of their homes in the case of an emergency. I want to stress that should this occur, our Police and First Responders are fully equipped to get to you. As always, our Division of Police is available at all times and can be reached by calling 732 536-0100. In an emergency, dial 911.
Following this substantial snowfall, we understand that there are large piles of snow near intersections and storm drains. DPW will be working to knock these piles down and to clear these areas to the extent possible over the next several days.
As you begin to remove snow from your driveways, we suggest you review page 13 of your Recycling Calendar for Snow Removal Facts and Guidelines. Please do not shovel or blow snow into the street; it creates icing and dangerous conditions. When clearing snow, where possible, pile the snow to the right of the driveway (looking out to the street from your house). The United States Postal Service asks customers to clear enough snow from their mailboxes to allow mail trucks to approach the box, deliver the mail and drive away. If a fire hydrant is located on your property, it should be cleared of snow to prevent the lines from freezing and allow access in case of fire.
We remind you that the Marlboro Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has suspended all curbside brush pickup effective until further notice. All vehicles other items, including portable basketball hoops, must be removed from the roadways when the road is snow covered. This allows the plows to clear more effectively, and reduces the likelihood of damage to vehicles. Please check with your private garbage company for trash pickup suspensions.
You can find us on FaceBook and Twitter @MarlboroTwp as well as my Facebook page. We will continue to update the public through social media, email, and reverse 9-1-1. We ask that you continue to stay off the roads to allow Police, DPW and First Responders clear access. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.
