Winter Storm Kenan – Update #5

Dear Resident,

The Blizzard Warning expired at 4:00pm today and the snow has, for the most part, ended.  Our Department of Public Works (DPW) continues snow removal and will follow with salting as they complete each neighborhood. We ask for your patience as DPW clears and treats 200 miles of roads located within 32 square miles. 

We remind you that vehicles may not be parked on the roads until snow plow operations are complete.  To prevent icing and dangerous conditions, do not shovel or blow snow from your vehicle or driveway onto the road. 

Temperatures are expected to remain very cold tonight through tomorrow.  Please take precautions and dress appropriately when outside.  Pets should not be outside for an extended period of time.   Cold weather can make shoveling even more dangerous for susceptible groups.  I cannot stress enough that you do not have to clear your driveway in case there may be an emergency.  We will get to you even if your driveway is not plowed.  

Our Fire Departments ask residents that have a fire hydrant on or near their property to clear a three foot perimeter around fire hydrants and a clear path to the road to allow firefighters to work.  The US Post Office regulations require safe access to your mailbox for mail to be delivered. 

I want to thank the DPW who worked days before, during and after the storm to treat and clear our streets.  Our Office of Emergency Management, Police, Fire and First Aid who are on the job 24/7 no matter what the weather. Finally, thank you to you, the residents, who heeded our request to stay home and off the roads allowing DPW and First Responders to work safely.  Together, we weathered the storm.
